You are correct, if you are taking the standard deductible, it will not have impacted your tax liability in any way.
However, in case that is different next year, the parts of registration that are deductible are taxes which are based on the value of the vehicle. Fees that are the same for each vehicle are not a tax but a fee due the state or locality. They are not included in the federal deduction. To make it even more complicated, different states have different ways of handling this. It may be that your state does not have any fees based on the value of the vehicle.
