Get your taxes done using TurboTax

I think you may be trying to record your form in the wrong place.

I believe you received a 1099-R, not a W-2.  The 1099-R is for reporting retirement income.  The W-2 is for reporting wages that you earned.

Does your form look like this, with:

  • Box 1 - Gross Distribution
  • Box 2a - Taxable amount.

To post your 1099-R, Go to:

  1. Select Federal
  2. Wages & Income
  3. Select Wages and Salaries, or Revisit
  4. Scroll to Retirement Plans and Social Security
