An alternative (may be slower, but you may be able to do it online), is to get a Transcript of your prior year tax return.
Go to this IRS webpage, Get-Transcript.
Ask for the Record of Account Transcript. I can't guarantee your kids' SS numbers will be on it (the samples on the Internet that I can see have been sanitized, so SS numbers have been zero'd out), but if you can get it online, it will be quick.
