IRS Publication 527, Chapter 4 contains five special situations which may/may not apply to filers of residential rental properties. It took some time for me to realize that I fell into one of these situations. If warranted, could a future software build of TurboTax include a question (with the 5 known special situations listed) , asking the user if any of these apply?
