Get your taxes done using TurboTax

With the exception of your wife changing jobs, it sounds like most of your federal return is pretty straight forward.

The states are where you want to focus. (I'm basing this on both states having income tax requirements)

  • You will want to be sure that the taxes are allocated correctly.
  • You will have to allocate income based on where you lived at the time.
  • You will have a filing obligation in both states.
    • You owe tax in the state that you work in.
    • You also owe tax in the state that you live in.
    • You get a credit in the state that you live in if you work in a different state.
    • Post your new home state first so that credit can be carried over.
  • If you're working in Online TurboTax you can preview your state summaries and your completed 1040
