Get your taxes done using TurboTax

To fix the problem I overrode the wages line on my MA state return so that it equals the wages line on my federal return.  The nonqualified pension now shows up only on the other income line on the state return, which is how it's being reported on the federal return.  Prior to 2022 nonqualified pension was reported on the wages line.  In 2022 the IRS moved nonqualified pension from wages to other income, so turbo tax is handling this correctly for the federal return.  I'm wondering if when this move was made for 2022 on the federal return the MA state turbo tax software didn't remove the nonqualified pension from the wages line, and that's why it's being double counted.  In any event, I fixed my issue using override.

Thank you,
