I am also having this issue. The first time I tried, the Maryland rejection email came the next day after the successful submission email. The second time I tried, the Maryland rejection email came within minutes of the successful submission email.
My federal return was successfully submitted last week, but irs.gov shows that it is still being processed. If the lack of a fully processed federal return is the issue, I'd expect an appropriate explanation in the error message (not blanks).
