1099-R with Negative Earnings
I received a 2022 1099-R due to an excess contribution in 2021. The return came before April 18, 2022 but after my 2021 return was already filed. I am older than 59 1/2. The 1099-R has a negative earnings amount as there was a loss. From other posts I learned to make an amendment to my 2021 returns reflecting the new 1099-R even though it is marked 2022. Also, from another post I learned to put $0 in box 2A since the amount is negative. The result is two problems:
1) The Federal return shows no change but does show $0 owed.
2) The state (MI) return seems to have not changed at all and still shows the same amount due as at the original filing.
Am I doing something wrong?
Do I even need to file the amendments if the change does not impact dollar amounts on the retrurn?
