Does child claimed as dependent need to file Federal and State tax? (SSA 1099 income)
Hello -
My son is 3 years old, dependent and we claim him as a dependent on our joint tax return. Last year I received disability income (SSDI) from SSA which also qualified my dependent child to get dependent benefits/income. The income is for my son but I am the representative payee/parent. For calendar year 2022, we received 2 separate SSA-1099s (social security benefits statement) - one for me and one for my son. Do I need to file a separate return for my 3 year old to report this income (Federal and State -VA)? Does this income need to be reported as this is his only income?
