Get your taxes done using TurboTax
It depends, if this maternity leave is form the Japanese Government, you would report this under other income.
- Click Federal Taxes -> Wages & Income
- Scroll down to Less Common Income Go to the last selection, Miscellaneous Income and click Start
- Go to the last option, Other reportable income and click Start
- When it asks, "Any other reportable income?" say yes and then type in Maternity Leave from Japanese Employer and the amount.
This is not considered foreign earned income because this is a benefit and not considered wages.
