It depends. You can create different tax return scenarios using the
CD/download versions of TurboTax and then not file/delete the ones that
you are not going to use. In the CD/download version of TurboTax, you
can create one return that is filing joint and then other returns that
are as married filing separate to see which way will benefit you both.
Note that there are certain deductions and credits that are only
available on a jointly filed return.

instructions below are for creating joint federal and separate state
returns, but the concept would still apply in your case to see the
impact of both filing statuses.
