Get your taxes done using TurboTax

Thank you for the reply. It sounds like I end up sending a paper document to the IRS either way. However, if I file my 1040 on paper, I have to file my state 540 return (California) on paper as well. I also made estimated payments to CA under the old name, but it appears on my CA FTB account that they are showing those payments under my current name. Also, I find nothing in the CA form 540 instructions regarding estimated payments made under a prior name. It seems, therefore, that I can file my CA form electronically. Are you aware of any requirements in CA to file on paper in this situation? If not, then it appears electronically filing both forms is a better option.  Are you aware of any disadvantage to filing Form 1040 electronically, followed up with a paper copy detailing the names used on the estimated tax payments)?
