It's possible that what you're seeing is an exemption limitation based on income.
For example, if you're married filing joint and your federal adjusted gross income was over $150,000 but not over $175,000, each of your exemption amounts would drop to $1,600, equaling the total exemption amount you're seeing.
And, in that scenario, your spouse would still be getting the $1,000 age exemption, since that wouldn't be affected by the reduction.
