Exact same issue as seen in these 22 pages of complaints. In December 2022, I bought TT 2022 from a retailer for download. A middleman company immediately sent an email with the download link and 16 digit license code. Installed just fine on my 'existing' laptop. It never asked me to 'sign-in first', so what's on 'existing' is not linked to my online Intuit account. In fact, none of my TT purchases since 2012 show on that account EXCEPT 2021.
Jan 2023 - got a new laptop. My dozens of apps ported just fine - EXCEPT TT - the one that costs me the most each year.
FAILURE 1) Tried to redownload from middleman, and it said the link was no longer valid.
FAILURE 2) Since my Intuit account showed no 2022 TT existed, downloading via online was also a dead-end.
FAILURE 3) Searched everywhere to just get a DOWNLOAD! After all, I had the 16-digit code from the email and I just needed the file setup. No success.
FAILURE 4) Copied the entire 600M 2022 folder from 'existing' to a thumb drive, then copied that to 'new' and clicked on the install file. It burped, of course, with some nonsense error.
FAILURE 5) Recalled that the Dec2022 download zip file was likely still in 'existing' Windows/Downloads folder. It was, so copied it to the thumbdrive, then to Downloads folder on 'new'. Went to the PC app executable (vs MAC). Installation on 'new' started, just like on 'existing'. At the end of the install and update process, popup said 'TT will shut down and boot up.' It didn't, of course, but that has been a constant error in every version of TT I've used.
FAILURE 6) Searched Windows, found the newly installed TT2022, booted it up. It asked for the activation code, and I typed it in per the middleman email. BURP!!! "All available activations for that code have been used. Error code 603" - even though this would have only been activation #2.
SO WHAT'S LEFT? Phone support, after ~8 hours of effort. Look, I'm not happy about Intuit always lobbying Congress to avoid tax simplification, but I can deal with that kind of grift. However, I can't deal with BAD UI. In software 20+ years and have seen a lot. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED LONG AGO, INTUIT!
