My partner & I bought our first home this year (Jan 2022) and are planning to get married, but likely won't be legally wed until March 2023. If we're married before the tax deadline of April 15, 2023, are we able to file jointly for 2022 or does the marriage have to take place in the calendar year of 2022?
If we can't file jointly for 2022, what are the implications for the home purchase. How do we file individually on a large joint purchase?
