Get your taxes done using TurboTax
The energy credit for certain types of roofs was extended to December 31, 2021. So you should qualify time- wise, if the roof meets the criteria.
This tax credit is for ENERGY STAR certified metal and asphalt roofs with pigmented coatings or cooling granules designed to reduce heat gain. Certified roof products reflect more of the sun's rays, which can lower roof surface temperature by up to 100F, decreasing the amount of heat transferred into your home. The installer of your roof should be able to provide you with this certification.
If the roof qualifies, the credit would be 10% of the cost (NOT including installation) up to $500.
If you have already filed your 2021 tax return, you would need to file an amended 2021 return to receive the credit. You cannot claim it on your 2022 return.
