I believe there was a discrepancy in my taxes. I was a 1099 employee in 2020-April 2021, then w-2 from that point to now. I owed taxes this year after getting a raise.
I had to file as an independent worker when I was first hired, with the 1099-NEC form. I was brought on as an official employee and have been for two years. This past year, I received a raise from my employer, in which I thought there would be an adjustment to my w-4, but that does not seem to be the case. I ended up owing money to the federal because I supposedly didn’t pay enough taxes. Is there any way that I’m responsible for this adjustment with my w-4? Or is that supposed to be adjusted on my employers behalf? I was very upset to find out that I wasn’t getting a return this year so I need to find out why this is happening.
