Get your taxes done using TurboTax
You can change your filing status in TurboTax by following these steps in TurboTax Online:
- Go to Personal Information on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Select Edit to change the filing status
The IRS filing statuses are listed below to help you determine which status suits your current situation:
- Single Filing - on the last day of the year you were unmarried or legally separated
- Married Filing Joint - You are currently married and both you and your spouse agree to file a joint return
- Married Filing Separately - You are currently married but you and your spouse choose to file a separate return
- Head of Household - You are unmarried on the last day of the year and paid more than half the household expenses. You have a qualifying dependent living with you for more than half the year.
- Qualifying Widower - If your spouse passed away you can claim married filing joint the year of passing. For the following 2 years, you can claim qualifying widower, if you have a dependent child you can claim on your return and you have not remarried.
