Dependent Care Credit and Student with Income Error
I am working through the "Dependent Care Credit" section of turbotax online for 2022 taxes. I am filing as married filing jointly, and both my spouse and I make more than our work-related expenses for childcare. I am a full time student with income (teaching assistant stipend), and she is not a student.
According to IRS instructions for Form 2441, "For each month or part of a month you were a student or disabled, your earned income is considered to be at least $250... If you also worked during that month, enter the higher of $250 (or $500) or your actual earned income for that month."
Even though I've entered my W2 into Turbotax which includes income above the $250 each month, the software appears to limit the credit amount ($600) to the minimum $250/month (20% of $250*12 months) instead of using my actual income. There does not appear to be an option for correcting this.
Am I missing something, or is this a bug?
