Get your taxes done using TurboTax
@AmberLynne said " I was an employee bc the department of labor had to do a wage investigation"
In that case, you do not file as self employed. You should wait until early February to see if your employers send you W-2s, since, apparently, the department of labor has told them they should.
If not, in TurboTax (TT), enter at:
- Federal Taxes tab (Personal in Home & Business)
- Wages & Income
Scroll down to:
-Less Common Income
-Misc Income 1099-a 1099-C (Press start)
-On the next screen, select Other income not already reported on a W-2 or 1099
- On the next screen, answer yes to Did you receive other wages
- On the next 3 screens, select continue
- On the next screen, check Yes to Any Other Earned Income
-On the next screen, check Employee Compensation that was not Reported on a W-2. Follow the rest of the interview.
You have to pay your share of the Social security tax on form 8919. You also have to submit form SS-8 and the IRS will determine whether you or the employer pays the he employer portion of the SS tax.
Form SS-8 is not in TT but is here ===>>> http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fss8.pdf
