2022 Version and Mac/PC Install Prior Year Issues
The past couple of years, there have been quite a few posts regarding issues related to:
1. Installing the product on both PC and Mac computers. Can anyone, including Turbotax support, verify that users who buy the 2022 software, will be able to install the software on both a Mac and on a PC without buying multiple licenses? If so, do users need to buy the CD version to do this? If not, how would a user with the downloaded version accomplish this? If a user buys the CD version, but has no CD drive, can they still download both versions, without paying for multiple licenses, via installturbotax.com?
2. There have been issues with getting the Mac version to operate correctly, multiple years, and I have personally experienced this myself two years in a row. Here’s how the experience went: the software installed fine, but then would get go through the update loop and would never open.
There were many workarounds/fixes suggested to this (primarily by users), such as, restart in safe mode to clear the cache, deleting the application and associated libraries and folders, etc. Users should not have to perform such actions on what is supposed to be an off the shelf software product to get it to work.
The first year, no one was able to really identify why this was occuring. After exhaustive conversation with support, their only solution was to give me a key to file them online, which I really didn’t want to do, but this was their only suggestion. The next year, I thought surely they had fixed this issue, but just to be safe, I bought it at Costco. Same issue. That year it was said to be due to the M1 chip and/or the OS (new Macbook, updated OS). I saw where this was going, and I ended up returning my software and repurchasing the PC version to get through my taxes.
Can anyone running the 2022 version on a Mac comment on how this software is working this year (please note what model you’re running it on and also the OS you’re running)?
Can anyone who has successfuly installed the 2022 version on multiple platforms, without buying additional licenses, comment on how they successfully did so?
I am an experienced user and I really like Turbotax better than their competitors. Prior to the last couple years, it worked flawlessly; however, I’m really not looking to go through this again this year and am looking for some reassurance that these issues have been resolved before I purchase. Fingers crossed!
