I did not mention it originally, but the IP PIN that I just got is for tax year 2022, meaning that it is intended for the tax return I am supposed to file next year (and it is apparently too difficult or impossible at this point for me get my 2021 IP PIN). The IRS representative said that this 2022 IP PIN that I have probably would not permit me to e-file my 2021 return, but that it was worth giving it a try.
She suggested that I put the new IP PIN on the paper return that I send because even if it is for 2022 it will likely be helpful. I will be sure to note that it is the 2022 PIN. And thanks for telling me were to put the IP PIN on the paper return.
