There is no age limit to claim child as a dependent if the child is Permanently and totally disabled.

 Per IRS guidance:

Your child is permanently and totally disabled if both of the following apply.

  • He or she can't engage in any substantial gainful activity because of a physical or mental condition.

  • A doctor determines the condition has lasted or can be expected to last continuously for at least a year or can lead to death

You may want to look into your son filing for SSI benefits to see if he qualifies.  If he does then this would help substantiate the above (2) IRS guidance points for qualifying as a dependent.
