Declared eligible for Medi-Cal by Covered California but never got the card/1095B in mail. Never used medical services in whole 2021. Do I claim I have health insurance?
My wife was declared eligible for Medi-cal for 2021. We got married last year so she was on that Medi-cal insurance all year. She never got the card in mail, neither did she get a 1095B. She has a letter from CoveredCa saying you can start using this letter as proof until your card comes in mail. Luckily she never went to the doctors all year. Therefore the 1095B was never triggered. We have tried contacting the county multiple times for a 1095B but they say since she never went to the doctors in the entire year, she wont have a 109B. Now do we claim that she had health insurance ? CA has a penalty for not having health insurance for 2021. I am worried that FTB records will show that she didn't have a 1095B and hence they will penalize us? But that letter from CoveredCa should be enough proof in that case? What should i do.
