You only get one extension. October 17 is the final deadline. That applies to both federal and New York. But if you do not owe any tax, there is no penalty for filing late.
If you are using TurboTax Online, note that it will not be available after October 17. If you cannot finish by then, move your partially completed tax return to the CD/Download TurboTax software now.
