Presently, the online version of the program can only be used to file a 2021 tax return, and that will be shut down permanently sometime in october to prepare the online program for 2022.
To prepare a prior year tax return you have to purchase the CD/Desktop version for the specific tax year you need to file, and you physically install on your Windows or MAC computer, and use that to prepare your prior year tax return. Also, you can not e-file a prior year tax return. (The IRS says so). You have to print, sign and mail it to the IRS.
TurboTax only supports their software for the current tax filing year and three years back. You can purchase the program for a prior year at https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/
MAKE SURE you select the link for the tax year you wish to file. If you purchase the program for the wrong tax year, you own it.
