A friendly welcome to our new and returning community members!

We’re excited to share another sweepstakes and another chance to win a $100 gift card with you. This month, we’re discussing Self-Employed & Gig Workers.

The Gig Economy is booming. Many Americans are working one or more gig jobs and their reason for doing so vary. Some people find the freedom of working their own hours allows them to pursue other interests, many people are working side gigs to supplement their income, and others have jumped on board with gig work to fill the time and socialize (shout-out to the drivers who also give out free life advice).  Gig work has changed the economy and the way we do our taxes. If you have done gig work or started your own business, you know there are pros and cons to it. To be entered in a sweepstakes for a $100 gift card, please share either a pro or a con to gig work, or if you have not experienced self-employment, share what you think the best gig work is. A winner will be selected at random.

If you have questions about how being self-employed or a gig worker can affect your taxes, please join us for a LIVE Q&A on  Wednesday, February 28th any time between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm Pacific Time to ask Tax and Financial Experts your questions and get advice about taxes and personal finance, for free! Learn more and RSVP here.

One pro of being a gig worker (Independent contractor, self-employed, etc ) is the freedom and happiness to work your own schedule or hours, you are your own boss and or manager so you don't ever have to worry about being fired or laid off...

I love that I can pick my own schedule. And you make more money then you would if you work for someone else. There's so many pros to doing gig work or being self employed.

Answer to sweepstakes question: I have decided not to use crypto in my self employed transactions. I haven't learned enough about it. And I'm afraid of not getting paid by not knowing anything about it. I've heard it's a good thing to use. That the fees are a lot less and it's really easy to get started. I just haven't had the time to learn more about it. But I would really like to try to put and learn more about it.

Level 1

The pro that I enjoy as a gig worker is the flexibility to work my own hours from the comfort of my own home

A con can be that you work alone and if working with or around other employees is important, this can be a con to some

Ever since i started doing gig work my life has become more self empowering. I have reduced my stress and anxiety due to not having to juggle work, young children, and the rest of home and life responsibilities that are run off a very strict schedule. I am able to have hours accommodating to the needs of my children and myself. Its the best choice i could have made.

I have only tried to ever use crypto one time. With that transaction I also needed to exchange it for bitcoin. To be perfectly honest, its so outta anything i have ever needed to know about or educate myself on that i ended up somehow loosing all my money. My goal is to have someone get me up to date and feel confident i understand everything with crypto.

GIG work? Let's me focus my mental and physical time on the projects and clients I want/need/desire to: for my own enlightenment and for affecting the industry and the consumers that get to reap the benefits of the collaborations. It also gives me the time freedom to do 'Tech Transfer'/teaching of mentor's techniques and principles that have been hidden as secrets of mentor/mentee relationships to many people wanting to enter or progress faster in my field.
