What happened to the 1040A and 1040EZ?

Starting with tax year 2018, forms 1040EZ and 1040A were removed in favor of a redesigned 1040 form.

The redesigned 1040 uses a "building block" approach that can be used by taxpayers with simple and complex tax situations alike. The more complicated the tax situation, the more forms and schedules are added to the overall tax return.
