How do we handle our AGI if we used Married Filing Separately in 2020 but are filing jointly in 2021?

SOLVEDby TurboTax276Updated 1 month ago

When you get ready to file, indicate that you each filed your own returns last year. Then, enter the 2020 adjusted gross income (AGI) from each spouse's respective return.

To prevent a rejection, don't combine your 2020 AGIs into a single number, even if that seems to make sense to you.

If you and/or your spouse didn’t file last year and you’re in TurboTax, whoever didn’t file should just tell us they didn’t when we ask. But if you’ve already entered a number for your AGI, manually enter 0 instead.
