Where do I enter student loan interest (Form 1098-E)?

Here's how to enter your student loan interest. Follow these instructions whether or not you received a 1098-E from your lender:

TurboTax Online

  • Go to the 1098-E screen under Deductions & Credits

  • Answer Yes to the question Did you get a 1098-E for student loan interest?

    • If you land on the Here's your 1098-E info (or Here's what you paid in student loan interest)screen, you can either edit an existing payment or add a new one.

  • Follow the onscreen instructions to enter your 1098-E information.

TurboTax Desktop

  • Open or continue your return.

  • Select Federal Taxes and then Deductions & Credits.

  • Select I'll choose what I work on.

  • Under Education, select Start or Update next to Student Loan Interest Paid (Form 1098-E).

  • Follow the screens to enter your info.
