Can I deduct education expenses that were paid with student loans?

Eligible education expenses can be deducted if the funds came from a student loan.

Education expenses are deducted in the tax year they were paid, regardless of when the loan was paid.

Remember, someone claiming the student as a dependent also claims the education credit, not the student.
