Where do I enter my long-term care premiums?
by TurboTax•117• Updated 1 week ago
For 2024, you can deduct long-term care insurance costs if you itemize your deductions instead of taking the Standard Deduction. Like other medical expense deductions, you can only deduct what exceeds 7.5% of your adjusted gross income (AGI).
Deductions for long-term care insurance policies are limited based on the policy holder’s age:
- Age 40 and younger as of December 31, 2024: $470
- Age 41–50 as of December 31, 2024: $880
- Age 51–60 as of December 31, 2024: $1,760
- Age 61–70 as of December 31, 2024: $4,710
- Age 71 or older as of December 31, 2024: $5,880
To enter your long-term care premiums:
- Open or continue your return.
- Navigate to the Schedule A section:
- TurboTax Online/Mobile: Go to Schedule A.
- TurboTax Desktop: Search for Schedule A, then select the Jump to link.
- Proceed through the medical expenses section and go past the Tell us about anything paid for long-term care services screen. This screen is for actual care expenses, not insurance premiums.
- When you reach How much did you spend on insurance premiums?, enter your gross (total) long-term care premiums.
