How do I enter Home Energy Tax Credits?
by TurboTax•8• Updated 3 days ago
The One Big Beautiful Bill has set December 31, 2025 as the expiration date to save on energy tax credits for home improvements. If you meet this deadline, you could claim a credit of 30% of qualifying expenses, up to $1,200 annually for most improvements.
For guidance on claiming these credits, visit Home Energy Credits in the Deductions & Credits section of TurboTax.
Eligible improvements include things like solar water heaters, energy-efficient windows and doors, and battery storage systems. Certain items like heat pumps, biomass stoves, and boilers have their own $2,000 yearly cap, allowing for a combined maximum of $3,200 per year.Â
Keep in mind that these credits are non-refundable. They can lower your tax bill, but they won’t result in a refund if you owe nothing.
Navigate through a series of qualifying questions until you find your home energy improvement.
