Can I deduct the property/real estate taxes on a rental property?
If the property is solely used as a rental property, then no—you don’t receive a deduction for property taxes. Property taxes are an expense for the rental property and are entered under the rental expense section of TurboTax.
But, if the property is a partial rental (like renting out a room on Airbnb), you can get a deduction for the portion of the home that you live in, and write off the expense of the rental portion.
Enter all the information in the Rental Properties and Royalties section under Wages & Income. We’ll calculate the rental property expense and the personal deduction. (Make sure to not enter the information again under the Deductions & Credit section since we will have already calculated the deduction.)
