Tax law changes

Hi Yamayor,

Thank you for reaching out.

IF you daughter was your dependent - meaning

  • She was a full time student
  • she lived with you for more than 6 months (time at college counts as staying with you)
  • you provide more than half of her support for the year

then whether you claim her as dependent or not, she has to say that someone can claim her as a dependent .

Considering above, if she is your dependent, you should include her as such on your taxes. If you claim her as a dependent you will get  a child tax credit of $500.

Hope this helps and answers your question.

Thanks again,
