Regarding your 1099-R, YES, if your 1099-R is available through our partner program, TurboTax can import that form. If it isn't available, you’ll have to manually enter your 1099-R information in TurboTax. This can happen if your bank/brokerage is not a partner, or if they did not make your form available for import this year.  If you are unable to import, you will need to contact your plan administrator, bank, or broker and ask them to send you a copy.

SSA-1099 forms are not available for import with the Turbo Tax program. However, you should be able to visit the ssa.gov website to get a replacement form. You will need to sign into your my Social Security account or create a login if you don't already have one. Once you are logged in to your account, select the Replacement Documents tab.  If you cannot find the SSA1099 that would have been mailed to you in January, you could visit your nearest Social Security office to request one in person, which would be faster

To see which providers are partner program providers, in TurboTax Online, follow these steps.

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
  • Across the top of the screen, click on Wages & Income.
  • At the screen Your income, scroll down to IRA, 401(K), Pension plan withdrawals (1099-R).
  • Click Edit/Add to the right.
  • At the screen Let's import your tax info, enter your 1099-R provider to see whether the provider allows TurboTax download their information.

IRS form 1099-R is used to report the distribution of retirement benefits such as pensions and annuities. You should receive a copy of Form 1099-R, or some variation, if you received a distribution of $10 or more from your retirement plan.
