Retirement tax questions
If you have net profit from self-employment, yes, you can contribute to a SEP-IRA. Your participation in the 401(k) plan provided by your W-2 employer has no effect on the amount that you are eligible to contribute to the SEP-IRA. Only a 401(k) plan established under your self-employment business would affect your eligibility to contribute to a SEP-IRA.
