I had to pay rent while at away for work, is that a write off?
I stay away from home at work, and have to rent places to stay while away. These are not funded or reimbursed by my employer. Where can I write off this expense?

Unless you have established a new "Tax Home" with permanent job away from your residence, you can deduct your qualifying business travel expenses as a Miscellaneous Deduction. For information on what expenses are deductible, please see; IRS PUB 463 Travel, Entertainment, Gift and Car Expenses
To claim the deduction in TurboTax,- Click on Search
- Type "Itemized Deductions" and hit enter
- Click on "Jump to Itemized Deductions"
- Click on "I'll choose what I work on"
- Scroll down towards the bottom of the page and under "Employment Expenses" select "Job Related Expenses".
- Click on Start/Update
- Continue with the interview to claim your business travel expenses.
