FT student who plays baseball. team works security to raise $ for team costs. received W2 but did not receive pay, pmts direct to college. doesn't seem right as income

FT student plays college baseball.  Team does security at events to raise funds for team costs (travel, equipment, etc..)  Multiple events each season.  Received W2 but no payck, pay, direct deposit, etc...  pmt goes directly to the college.  Did similar work last year and did not receive W2 from different organization.  does not seem right to have to report that as income

No, that doesn't seem right.  Contact the ''employer'' on the W-2 and get an explanation or corrected W-2.  If the W-2 has his SSN on it, then the IRS is expecting that W-2 to be reported by your son.  So, it is very important to get it corrected.
