Education
Whoever claims the student as a dependent on their tax return (student or someone else) is the one who can claim qualified education expenses paid out of pocket or with loans for deduction or credit on their tax return. Do you claim her as a dependent or does someone else? Whoever claims her can include the amounts you pay for tuition on their tax return even though you were the one who paid it.
