1098 E. Cannot claim student loan interest because loan is not in my name
trying to add a 1098 E, however because the "borrower" listed is not myself, I chose to select "someone else" while trying to add info; apparently because the loan is not in my name, I cannot claim the interest paid. However the named borrower states they cannot claim the interest because they are not the student. I make all payments toward this loan. Thanks for your help!

If you are not legally liable for the loan, you cannot claim student loan interest
If the named borrower qualifies per the above rules, he/she can claim the interest
