Schedule F not functioning
Schedule F is not functional. I've spent hours trying to do a workaround. It's not recognizing the form. Even started a new return and when I open a new schedule F, it will not allow me to even fill in the farm name. Trying to do it in Easy Step mode just brings me to "rental farm" screens.

Which version of TurboTax are you using? I have not encountered any issues setting up a Schedule F. Try using the steps below to set up a Schedule F (it sounds like you have a Desktop version):
TurboTax Desktop
To add your farm income in TurboTax Desktop, follow the instructions below:
- Go to Federal Taxes.
- Under Wages & Income, scroll down to Business Items. Click Start next to Farm Income and Farm Rental.
- Under Tell Us About Your Farm or Farm Rental Income, click the box next to “I have income from operating a farm”. Click any other boxes listed if they also apply to you. Click Continue.
- To enter details for your farm, either:
- Click Edit next to your Farm Name, or
- Add Another Farm.
- Enter the relevant information for your farm.
- When you get to the screen, Enter Income, enter dollar amounts in the fields provided for the different types of farm income you received that were not listed on a 1099 form, and for any amounts reported to you on Form 1099-PATR.
- Continue through the remaining screens to finish entering your farm details.
For TurboTax Desktop (CD/Download), you can use Deluxe, Premier, or Home & Business, to file a Schedule F. However, TurboTax Home & Business is highly recommended as it provides tailored, guided interviews specifically for farm income and expenses.

- In East Step, when I click "Farm Income” it goes straight to the "farm rental income" track. I do not have a farm rental, but there seems to be no way to get it to do the farm “farm income” track. TurboTax keeps pushing me into the farm rental track.
- When I went to Forms and create a new Schedule F from scratch, it does not link to the rest of Turbotax return.
- And I cannot get my 1099-G entry to link to Schedule F.
- After hours and hours trying to find work-arounds I got so frustrated that I decided to start a whole new return, and begin with opening a new scheduled F form. Unfortunately, I can't get the farm form started. It will not even allow me to input the farm name. It’s a dead end.

We have reviewed the diagnostic copy of your return and found Schedule F in the forms of your return. All of the necessary information was recorded, including the name of the farm, the principal crop/activity, 1099-G payments, and related expenses. There was a net loss for the year.
The only significant form errors were on the Schedule C Worksheet (expenses needing descriptions) and a few other miscellaneous forms, including the Vermont Info Worksheet.
If you're still not able to choose Farm Income and Expense under Business >> Farm Income and Expenses >> Update, you may try manually updating TurboTax Desktop. See the instructions here: Manually Update TurboTax for Windows Software.
