For car registration fees. Is the the amount I pay for the year to Loudoun County Virginia $241 or is it the Vehicle registration fee I pay to the DMV $43?

Generally, for car registration fees, it will be the vehicle registration fee paid to the DMV, based on the value of your vehicle and you itemize your deductions. You can’t deduct the total amount you paid, only the portion of the fees that’s based on your vehicle’s value.

But there are some states that allow you to claim Personal property taxes instead of car registration fees, Virginia being one. You may be able to claim the $241.
