My husband is both employed and self-employed. He receives subsidized health care coverage (HMO) from his employer. Can dental and vision expenses be deducted on Sch. C?

I understand out-of-pocket health care premiums may not be deducted, but what about dental and vision expenses, which are not covered by the insurance? Can the whole family's dental and vision expenses be deducted on Sch. C?

The self-employed medical deduction applies only to medical, dental or long-term care insurance premiums that self-employed people pay for themselves, their spouse and their dependents.  It does not apply to dental and vision expenses.
