Massachusetts Family Leave Withholding
My wife's employer mistakenly was withholding Massachusetts income (she never worked in or for a company in MA) and family leave taxes, but she did not notice for a few months. The employer said there was nothing they could do other than start withholding the correct state's taxes. When filing the Massachusetts non-resident return stating zero dollars earned in the state, it was rejected because I listed the entire amount of the medical leave taxes as excess, which is below the maximum threshold for excess withholding. The recommendation from TurboTax was to not claim the excess withholding and then re-e-file. Is there a way to recover this money from MA?
