I am a resident of WA state. I go to law school at Notre Dame in IN. I was paid $4,000 by ND last summer to for work in an office in WA state. Do I file IN state taxes?

State tax filing

No, you do not need to file Indiana.  This is because:

  1. You are a Washington resident
  2. Your income was earned in Washington (even though it came from Notre Dame)
  3. You are in Indiana temporarily for school.  You remain an Indiana non-resident, and that income is not taxable in Indiana
