If I sometimes drove in Michigan for Lyft while living in Ohio, do I say that I worked outside of my state of residence?

Yes, if you drove in Michigan for Lyft, you would say you worked outside of your state of residence.  Since this is self-employment income, you would need to file a Michigan Non-Resident return
