Your tax liability is the amount of taxes you owe to your state government.

Which state return are you filing?

Here's how to look at your state summary:

  • In the left-hand menu bar, click on Tax Tools, then click Tools.
  • Under Other helpful links, click View Tax Summary.
  • Select your state Tax summary from the left menu

Your state tax liability would be listed on your state tax return. It would be titled something like "total tax " but the description would vary by state.

For your stimulus checks, you need enter in TurboTax how much money you received for the first round of stimulus checks and then how much you received for the second round. The payments you received were based on what was on your 2019 tax return, $1,200 for each taxpayer and $500 for each child under age 17 for the first round of checks, then $600 for each taxpayer and $600 for each child on the second round of payments.

You just need to enter how much you actually received though. You may get an additional payment if you didn't receive all that you should receive based on your 2020 tax return.
