Amended Return Taxes and Refund
Amended return. Filed original recieved refund. Need to file ameneded returnwhich shows a much smaller refund based on simple math. Site here says the new "refund" amount will be an additonal refund. Not possible. The answer here on the site is incorrect regarding amended math.
i.e original return tax paid $17,039
tax owed $15,353
Refund $ 1,686
Amended return tax paid $17,039
tax owed $16,733
Refund $ 306
So by simple math receiving refund of $ 1638 and new revised refund $ 306 I actually owe IRS $1380, correct.
Can someone here or from Turbo Tax address this

After you file
Keep in mind that when you are amending, the refund tracker monitors the difference from your original filing to the amended return. It resets to $0. It does not include any original refund or balance due. If you are claiming any previously unclaimed credits, you will see the difference as an additional refund amount.

After you file
If my original federal return deposits the refund to my bank account, should I send a check for the amended return amount with the amended return? Makes sense - just checking.
