Do I send my original tax return with payment first then my amended return?
I did my taxes with Turbotax but went back to see if I missed adding child support after I finished. I ended up with an amended tax return even though my changes of adding a child that my wife can claim did not change my tax status. Do I file my original Tax Return with a check for the money I owe in taxes and then send in the amended tax return that did not change anything or do I just send my original un-amended tax return with a check? I added my account # and routing # in during the process but I'm not sure if it was applied because I amended my return. Thank you for your help in advance.

I meant to ask if you ever mailed the original return or e-filed it?

No Think I mailed it in with the amended to the address on the amended return form, but no payment because I put my account number and routing number in turbo Tax.

So you never filed an original return but instead you mailed an amended return. For future reference you never need to mail in an amended if you still have the original in your possession and have not e-filed it or mailed it. The return is not considered mailed until you drop in in the mailbox so you can always make changes....

Not IF you have mailed the amended return. Did you stamp and send off that amended return?

Yes, I sent the amended return with the original return attached. I owe $853.00 and did not attach any payment.

Since you attached them both together just wait and let the IRS sort this out. Do not send any other returns. If the original amount due was the $853 you can go ahead and make the payment by check or via the IRS website at the link below. The IRS will contact you regarding the return since you have them both together. If you do not hear anything in a few weeks go ahead and call them at 1-800-829-1040.
